Travel Itinerary App
Project Overview
The goal of the project was to design travel planning platform with automated itinerary feature. Aside from trip planning the platform also has a social aspect and it allows the users to engage with other users to share your plans and experiences.
Research
I conducted interviews, surveys and online research to develop my understanding of how the public interacts with political information. With all the information gathered, I came up with a Contextual Inquiry, an Empathy Map and an Impact/Effort Matrix.
Observations
I saw a few commonalities between the people I interviewed, such as, they search from multiple different sources, they don’t generally plan or care about the timing of their itinerary, and they spent most of their time looking at pictures instead of gathering information. This research allowed me to start planning for the features that I believe my users need most, to go on the app.
Discovery
I discovered that users spent 80% of their time looking through images of places and restaurants. From this analysis, I have made my app heavily based on pictures and included 360-degree views in the image gallery, for searched results. I also discovered that users didn’t really plan the timing for their trip because they think that it is too much work and there’s also the chance that things may change, causing the plan to change.
Process
I start developing my design by creating Wireframes and Task Flow to get a sense of the app flow. Then I create a Design System to keep the app consistent throughout the experience.
Task Flow
Search destination > Browse places to visit > Results Information > Add to Itinerary.
SOLUTION
The objective of this app is to let users search and explore tourist attractions, restaurants, and activities of their desired destination on one source without having to go back and forth between sites and getting lost and confused.
Users will be able to add their interests to create an itinerary suited to them, for their trip. Instead of figuring out the time schedule for their itinerary, the app will automatically schedule the time of events for our users, and then the users will be able to go back and make changes later. In addition, this app will also allow users to book places and will help users to save money by applying available promo codes, when applicable, automatically.
Plnr app addresses the main problems that target users have been facing when looking and planning for places to travel to. In particular, I believe that I addressed especially well the issue of simplifying the planning process by making all the resources you need to plan a trip available in one place. Not only does the app plan an itinerary for you but it also consolidates all your previous search results in one place, ultimately making your planning process infinitely easier.
